2017 | ||

March 2018 The last time I forgot to write an annual letter was 1996. I guess I had a good streak going there ... 2017 was the almost the same as 2016. It was pretty much as expected on the family front. Neil continues to live and work in PNG. The work is tough but interesting -- I don't lack excitement and the days / weeks pass quickly. Roger is in Sydney and Rex in Tennessee. Not much has changed. Roger graduated with a Bachelor of Science (First Class Honours) majoring in neuroscience and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney. He then said he wanted a year off -- a gap year -- due to the stress of study. He wants to do a PhD but he's lost momentum due to the year off. He's still trying for entry to a PhD program but without much luck. Rex is in his junior year in engineering at Tennessee Tech. His sophomore results were slightly less amazing than the freshman year, but still very good. He needs to maintain a 3.5 or better GPA to maintain his scholarship so long may he obtain good results (said the benefactor!). He's continues to be a Resident Advisor (RA) at the college. He's shared some stories from events on campus and it's a serious, not lightweight, responsibility. Neil had no celebratory events or trips to NZ – just work and three visits to Thailand in the year. Best wishes to you and your family in 2018.
